Vanmorgen hoorde ik erover op de radio, en deze dag valt bijna in het niet bij alle tumult omtrent het kabinet en de corona ontwikkelingen, maar het is toch echt Wereld Autisme Dag!

Een dag voor een feestje misschien, of niet? Geen idee, maar een autist maakt dit misschien niet zoveel uit. Het is al moeilijk voor de meesten om zich aan te passen in deze maatschappij.

Behalve dat het lastig is voor de mensen zelf, kan het ook grappig zijn. Je kunt er hele aparte situaties door krijgen omdat het denkpatroon en gedrag van deze mensen zo anders is.

Om een situatie te schetsen: Een autist gaat boodschappen doen. Voor de meeste mensen, voor corona tijd, de normaalste zaak van de wereld. Voor een autist die gewend is altijd de boodschappen rechts op de kassa loopband te leggen, niet. Voor corona geldde de anderhalve meter regel voor een autist al, nu is dat inmiddels 2,5 meter geworden in hun belevenis. Discussies als "U staat te dicht in mijn aura" was voor de corona maatregel ook al van toepassing. Verbaasde blikken als de boodschappen kleur bij kleur gesorteerd werden bleven niet uit. Er is altijd wel een macho man aanwezig die vindt dat het dan sneller en efficiënter moet, omdat we nu eenmaal gebrainwashed zijn in deze maatschappij. Is er echt ruimte voor andersdenkenden, bejaarden of langzame mensen? Of moeten we echt allemaal snel en efficiënt zijn. Aan het uiterlijk kun je niet zien of iemand autistisch is. Dit wekt veel onbegrip en agressie op. Dus voor mensen die iemand kennen grappig, maar voor de mensen zelf niet grappig. Het resultaat: een familielid doet tegenwoordig de boodschappen omdat het tot teveel escalaties en confrontaties leidt. Een sociaal isolement tot gevolg.

Laatst was er op het nieuws al een discussie over een "stil" uurtje voor mensen met autisme, beperking of hooggevoeligheid in de supermarkt. Ik zou zeggen DOEN, maar ook niet om 7 uur 's-morgens. Er is nogal een ritueel nodig om uit de veren te gaan voor sommigen, en voordat ze dan op pad zijn, is het 10 uur.

This morning I heard about it on the radio, and this day is almost insignificant compared to all the commotion about the cabinet and the corona developments, but it really is World Autism Day!

Maybe a day before a party, or not? I don't know, but an autistic person may not care much about this. It is already difficult for most to adapt in this society.

Besides being difficult for the people themselves, it can also be funny. It can lead to very special situations because the thinking and behavior of these people is so different.

To describe a situation: An autist goes shopping. For most people, for corona time, the most normal thing in the world. Not for an autist who is used to always putting the groceries on the right-hand side of the cash register treadmill. For corona, the 1.5 meter rule already applied for an autist, now it has now become 2.5 meters in their experience. Discussions such as "You are too close to my aura" also applied before the corona measure. Surprised looks when the messages were sorted color by color did not fail. There is always a macho man present who thinks it should be faster and more efficient, because we are simply brainwashed in this society. Is there really room for dissenters, the elderly or slow people? Or do we all really need to be fast and efficient. You cannot tell whether someone is autistic from their appearance. This arouses a lot of misunderstanding and aggression. So funny for people who know someone, but not funny for the people themselves. The result: a family member nowadays does the shopping because it leads to too many escalations and confrontations. Social isolation as a result.

Recently there was a discussion on the news about a "quiet" hour for people with autism, disability or high sensitivity in the supermarket. I would say DO, but not at 7 in the morning either. It takes quite a ritual to get out of bed for some, and before they hit the road it's 10am.
